The chance of former vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to contest the 2023 presidential elections of Nigeria under the platform of the main opposition party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may have been brightened as former President of the Senate, Iyorchia Ayu, emerged as the consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman of the opposition party.

It could be recalled that the position of the national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been, unanimously, zoned to the northern part of the country by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition party.
Interestingly, to witness a rancor-free national convention, prominent members, leaders and political opinion moulders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the northern part of the country have embarked on exercise to produce a consensus candidate which, favorably, falled in line with the choice of former President of the Senate, Iyorchia Ayu.
Surely, if everything remains unchanged, former Senate President, Iyorchia Ayu, will formally be declared as the National Chairman of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, October 30, 2021 when the national delegates of the party will formally ratify his chairmanship status.

Considerably, the choice of Iyorchia Ayu as the consensus national chairmanship candidate of northern PDP may have assisted the proximity of former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to contest for the next presidential ticket of the party.
The fact that Iyochia Ayu hails from Benue State which is located in North Central geopolitical may have, sincerely, safe the presidential hope of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who hails from Adamawa State which is located in Northeast geopolitical zone.
The fact that the national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party emerges from the Northern section of the country could be, surely, considered as a serious factor that may pose threat at the presidential ambition of the former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in 2023. However, the case may have been worsen, if the national chairman had emerged from his geopolitical zone, Northeast.

Sincerely, it may have been very difficult for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to forge ahead with his presidential ambition, if the national chairman of the party had emerged from Northeast. Thus, it would be politically unfair to other regions, if both national chairman and presidential candidate of the party emerge from the same geopolitical zone.
