The next presidential election of the country is in 2023 when eligible Nigerians will go to the polls to elect the successor of President Muhammadu Buhari. However, the main aim for politicians and their supporters at this moment is to make necessary plans and take strategic steps that will ensure their victory by 2023.
Hence, politicians who are enthusiastic to occupy the position of the apex political position of the country have started showing interest either directly or indirectly.
One such politician is Bola Tinubu who was the former governor of Lagos State. There have been media speculations that the former senator is nursing the ambition to occupy the presidential seat of the country by 2023. These speculations became obvious as many groups have thrown their weight behind the top Yoruba politician urging him to contest for the presidency in 2023. Though he is yet to categorically declare his intentions ahead of 2023.
However, a recent comment by the former national chairman of the All Progressive Congress Adams Oshiomole could be said to be in the direction of supporting Bola Tinubu's candidacy by 2023. The former governor of Edo State made the comment during the public presentation of a book titled, ‘Politics that works,’ in Abuja on Monday. According to Oshiomole, governance should not be reduced to age because he has seen elderly people who care and believe Nigeria can do better and they have an idea of how it can be managed.
How does Adams Oshiomole's comment relate to Bola Tinubu's presidential ambition in 2023?
The answer is not far-fetched because Adams Oshiomole stating that age should not be a yardstick in providing good governance means that he doesn't see age as a hindrance to good governance unlike some political commentators and analysts who have critized the presidential ambition of Tinubu based on his age. Recall that by 2023, Tinubu will be 72 years old. These analysts claim that at this point of Nigeria's dwindling economic struggle, the country needs a young and vibrant leader rather than an aged politician.

Hence, with this comment of Adams Oshiomole, could it be said that he has subtly expressed his views with regards to Tinubu's 2023 candidacy? For me, I will say yes because Oshiomole could be referring to Tinubu's presidential ambition because they both share a cordial relationship. Recall that Adams Oshiomole described the National Leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu on the occasion of his 69th birthdayy this year, as a champion of progressive politics and a prolific groomer of leaders. Oshiomole has shown great respect and admiration for Tinubu over the years, and it would not be out of place if he supports his presidential ambition ahead of 2023.
