The Federal Republic of Nigeria currently has 36 states plus the federal capital territory of Abuja. It should be said that many states in Nigeria were created during the military administration. However, there are some states that have been proposed for creation. Let us take a close look at three of them.
1. Katagum State
The Punch Newspaper reports that this is one of the new states that were rumoured and proposed for creation in 2021. The same source reports that this state would be created from the current Bauchi State in the North-East geopolitical zone of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
2. Mambilla State
The Punch Newspaper also reports that Mambilla State has also been proposed for creation in Nigeria. However, this state would be created from Taraba State in the North-East geopolitical zone of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
3. Njaba State
This state would be created from Imo state in the South-East geopolitical zone of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Punch Newspaper reports that people have also agitated for the creation of this state.
