After yesterday's Southeast Governors' Forum meeting in Enugu state, the chairman of the forum, Governor David Umahi, had a live interview with Channels Television's correspondent on the Sunrise daily show. While answering questions on the spate of insecurity in the Southeast, the Governor made mention of the plans of the Southeastern Governors. He said that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group will soon commence the creation of several committees which would help in eradicating insecurity. In this article, we would be looking at why what the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group will commence might make Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members surrender arms to Nigeria's Federal Government (FG).
1. The first reason why what the Igbo group will commence might make IPOB members surrender arms is because it would alter their mindset about secession. According to Governor David Umahi, who's the current chairman of the Southeast Governors'Forum, a committee on awareness creation about the modus operandi of the federal government will be created by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group. I think if this committee gets eventually created, the members will take their time in schooling the IPOB members about the aims and objectives of the country's federal government. If these lessons are well understood by the IPOB members, it will likely make them surrender arms because it will undoubtedly change their mindset or perception about secession. Governor David Umahi hinted at this saying, "IPOB members will have a change of mind and not be bitter about the federal government."
2. The second reason is because they will be taught about the essence of having a peaceful southeast. According to Governor David Umahi, one of the committees created by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group that shall soon commence their activities will, undoubtedly, work on informing IPOB members about how having a peaceful southeast will influence growth in every parts of the state.
