The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recently selected a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 election, leading to growing concerns about potential religious bias in certain areas of the country. Although the party has won previous elections, some have attributed their victories solely to religious affiliations. In response to these worries, Betta Edu, the APC National Women Leader, has assured Nigerians that the party's choices are not motivated by religious prejudice.
Edu emphasized that Bola Tinubu, a prominent APC member, is not a religious bigot and has actively given Christians representation in positions of power. For example, she cited Tinubu's instrumental role in securing Senator Godswill Akpabio's selection as the APC consensus candidate for the leadership of the 10th Assembly.
Edu further stated that Tinubu has ensured Christian representation in the party's leadership even before his inauguration. She highlighted the fact that the APC has produced the first priest as governor in Nigeria's history, demonstrating the party's commitment to inclusivity and diversity.
She further added that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not a religious bigot and that he is one who will be for every Nigerian because around him is his dear wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and she is a Pastor and a Christian. This is a government about the people. And his feeling will not be beclouded with Religion.
