20th of July is finally here, today, The much talk about All Progressive Congress Governorship primary election will hold across the state. Party delegate will file out to vote for their own prefered aspirant that will be later be the party flagbearer in the October 10 gubernatorial poll in Ondo state.
The political situation in the Sunshine state is now tensed as the aspirants are making last-minute consultation and lobbying. They are all bigwigs in the All progressive congress and none can be pushed aside as a spectator.
Those cleared for the primary election in the state includes the incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, immediate past Chairman of Ondo state APC, Mr Isaac Kekemeke, former governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy,Olusola Oke,2016 governorship aspirant of the APC,Olusegun Abraham among others.
The umpire that will oversee the party primary in the state is no other person than the young and energetic Governor of Kogi state,Governor Yahaya Bello.
Today is another opportunity for the Executive Governor of Ondo state,Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu to test his popularity among his party members. In 2016,he enjoyed massive support from the party leadership and the party delegates who trooped out enmasse to vote for him.He won against,Olusegun Abraham, the preferred candidate of the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress(APC),Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This caused a political rift between Akeredolu and Tinubu and almost put an end to their longtime friendship.
This time, the major obstacle is not from the Tinubu camp but from some of the contenders who had already formed an alliance against him.
It is very evident that there might be last-minute matrimony among some aspirants who are bent on drowning the aspirations of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association but with all the emerging odds against the performing Governor,it is clearer than crystal that he will surely emerge victorious in today's primary election and will eventually become the flagbearer to contest the forthcoming gubernatorial poll slated for 10th of October by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
Why Akeredolu will surely win in today's primary election in Ondo state :
