Opinion: The Race For 2023 Delta State Gubernatorial Election Has Begun

The Ijaw/Manager arguments: Zoning amongst the three senatorial districts has been completed. Zoning should begin with tribe now and it is the turn of the Ijaws to produce the next Governor.

My opinion: Democracy provides that the majority should always have their way. However, if there be zoning at all, we must also put into consideration "the majority rule" principle of democracy. The Ijaws in Delta State are a tiny minority, yet they have produced a deputy Governor and the senator ineffectively representing Delta South senatorial district. The Itsekiris have also had the position of the governor. It will be an injustice to the Urhobos if power is not returned to Delta Central in 2023 after going round the rest senatorial districts. If it is not so, then the majority status becomes a disadvantage to the Urhobos. It is also selfishness on the side of the Ijaws to want to produce the next Governor of Delta after producing the Deputy Governor of the state and the senator representing Delta South senatorial district for 23yrs now. Do not forget that we also have the Usobos (Urhobo and Isoko) in that axis. For equity sake, after Delta Central in 2031, it will be the turn of Isokos producing the governor and Urhobo producing the senator representing that axis. Don't be unreasonably selfish.
