The fight to become the next Governor of Abia State may have started underground. For those who know what politics is all about, they don't begin to lobby for positions in the year of an election. Because if you do so, you will be told to wait for the next election, because someone has been settled for the post.
When you see politicians cross-carpets to another party, like the latest controversial move made by Fani-Kayode, it's all about the politics of 2023. Former President Jonathan may be joining the APC, as previously rumored but without a number.
Back to Abia: The politics of Abia is going to be interesting because it's likely that the Ngwa clan may retain power. Governor Okezie is an Ngwa man. The Ngwa people didn't produce a governor for a long time until Okezie emerged as the first Ngwa citizen to become the governor of Abia state. Even though there are other politicians like Uche Ogah, Prince Ikonne, Dr. Alex Otti, etc. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe is the favorite to clinch power, and he's also of Ngwa origin.
Abaribe is regarded as the voice of the Igbos in the Senate. He has been vocal about things regarding the Igbos' plight. Nigeria is more of a battle ground where the fittest take all.
The issue bordering on the open grazing bill in the South is an eye opener to many. It has proved that the destiny of the people is 90% in the hands of the governors, who have saved them from the herdsmen menace. As a result, people may opt for a man who will most likely defend their interests in any political or social gathering.
Other governorship hopefuls in Abia are also good, but the PDP may take the day if they present the Igbo voice as their flag bearer. Igbo youths took their case to him to protest against the continuous sit-at-home order that has paralyzed Igbo common wealth.
It's not clear whether there is any other candidate in the PDP that may prevent Abaribe from becoming the PDP governorship standard bearer in 2023 in Abia. He is expected to be the flag bearer and, possibly, the next Governor of Abia State. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe was a deputy governor under the Orji Uzo Kalu administration. He was later removed from office. He later contested for the governorship position, but failed to emerge victorious, and later contested for the Senate and emerged victorious. Since he became a Senator, Enyinnaya has not lost his position in the upper chamber of the Nigeria National Assembly.
Remember that in politics, anything can happen that may change the game plan. Since power belongs to God, He may choose to give it to whoever pleases Him. Also, power is not a do-or-die affair.
Who do you think would be the best option for Abians? Who do you suggest may carry the day in the governorship election in 2023 in Abia state, God's own State?
