The former Vice President, Atiku may still emerge as Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP despite the new zoning system of the Party that made Presidential ticket open to all Presidential Aspirants who might be interested to contest Presidential race under the Platform of the Party, irrespective of their geopolitical zones.
It should be recalled that the PDP Governors had meeting and concluded that Presidential ticket should be made open to all Presidential Aspirants, irrespective of the geopolitical zones they might belong to. Meanwhile, the Leaders of the Party had earlier zone the Position of National Chairman to the North, therefore, PDP Leaders from the North will show their interest to become the National Chairman of the Party.
However, Atiku stands a better chance to emerge as Presidential Candidate of the Party, if he can strategize ahead the PDP Primary Election. Atiku will need to romance the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde. Seyi Makinde happens to be the Governor of Oyo State and the PDP Leader in Southwest by virtue of his Position as PDP Governor in Southwest. It should be recalled that the Vice Chairman of the Party, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja is from the Governor's camp, definitely Governor Makinde will have influence on Arapaja to mobilise delegates for Atiku in southwest to emerge as Presidential Candidate of the Party
As a result of this, Atiku will need the support of Governor Seyi Makinde to get more delegates from Southwest that will vote for him. Though, Governor Makinde is cordial the Governor of Rivers State, Governor Wike and the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal. Therefore, if Atiku should seek for the support of Governor Seyi Makinde, Atiku will get more delegates in Southwest.
Atiku will also control delegates in Northwest by reaching out to Notable Leaders in the Northwest geopolitical zone. If Atiku can reach out to Rabiu Kwankwaso, he will also get more delegates from the Northwest Meanwhile, Atiku is from the Northeast and It will be easier for him to clear the delegates in Northeast. In Nutshell, Atiku will need the Support of Governor Seyi Makinde in Southwest to emerge as Presidential Candidate of the Party.
