2 Steps PDP Must Take To Avoid Losing Another Member To The Ruling Party

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a prominent figure in the PDP decamped to the ruling party few days ago. His defection came as a huge shock to many PDP supporters. Prior to his departure, the former minister was a strong critic of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. No one believed he would ever join the party until few days ago when he officially announced his defection.

He was received by some members of the party including the party's chairman and President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house in Abuja.

Many political analysts and experts predicted his defection because of his close ties with Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi state. The two have been seen on countless occasions rocking the same outfits and taking photos with each other, particularly at the Kogi state government lounge.

PDP had been experiencing series defections since last year, though this one came as a huge surprise. Three active and serving governors have already defected to the ruling party. They include; Ben Ayade of Cross River, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state.

However, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode is another prominent figure who has joined the list of defectors to the ruling party. The party is faced with lots of challenges which it must address before the 2023 presidential election.

On that note, let's check out two steps they must take immediately in order to avoid losing another prominent member like Femi Fani-Kayode to the ruling party.

1. They should convene an emergency meeting

They should convene a special meeting to discuss the challenges they are facing. As things are, the party will be unable to compete with the ruling party in the upcoming general elections. So, if they truly want to contest for a position in the election, they must find a way to address their challenges.

According to speculations, APC may be looking for a means to entice former president, Goodluck Jonathan to join them before of the elections. This is just another strong indication that something is wrong at the party.

2. They should reconcile aggrieved members immediately

In order to move forward, the party members must sheath their swords and bury their grievances. It makes no difference who becomes the party's ticket holder for any political office. They must be willing to assist one another and proffer solutions to their challenges.

The reconciliation committee needs to step up its efforts and ensure that each member's issues are addressed. They must work together, and they must do so with the appropriate mindset if they truly want to recapture power from the ruling party.

These are the steps the party must take immediately in order to avoid losing another prominent member to the ruling party.
