Opinion: Why Secession Is Not The Solution

Recently, Nigeria has been facing insecurity and different violent agitators are threatening the peaceful co-existence of the country. The most recent one is the problems in the southeast, members Of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have caused havoc in the region and threatened the region's economy. They have ordered the residents to boycott economic activities and they have also given sit-at-home orders. Reports show that members of ESN are responsible for the death of some security agents and the vandalization of police vehicles and buildings. A separation is not the solution.

A country that stays together wins together. Nigeria does not need to separate because we have what it takes to build the nation and forge ahead. Every state in the country is dependent on the other because each state has different resources which the other needs and vice versa. A separation may come from war and there is no need for that or bloodshed. disintegrating the states in Nigeria will lead to a loss. Some States will face intimidation since they are minorities. A separation is unwanted by the majority so it should not happen.

The present government should remember the labor of our hero's past and ensure that all the regions stay together. if secession occurs some states will not let other people from different states enter their territory. Besides, I think it's going to be very expensive to manage a separation right now. Instead of separation, we should look forward to living together in a peaceful co-existence because peace is priceless. In the last war for separation, innocent lives were lost and a lot of properties were damaged. Every secessionist group should obey the clarion call for peace and stop all forms of agitation in Nigeria. God Bless Nigeria!
