About 20 years ago, The Itsekiri and Ijaw of Delta State had a huge fight that has put a barrier between them, and up till now that barrier is still there, although things are getting better as the years goes by but they have not be able, to come together fully.

But just yesterday the two tribes were able to unite, as they come together in a press conference in Warri, to demand a good deal from the Federal Government companies, that are drilling oil in their community.

The first stage of the press conference was held in Itsekiri community. Where the Itsekiri and Ijaw chiefs asked the Government to compensate them, or they will halt the drilling of oil in the community. They also called on the (NDDC), and the Ministries of work, and (IOC), international oil companies to protect the areas, that are drilling from rampaging ocean surge.

The Ologbotsere of Warri kingdom, Chief Ayiri Emami was also present added his voice to the demand, saying government and the international oil companies should comply for sake of fairness.

At the end of the conference some of the Itsekiri chiefs and leaders, went to Gbaramatu Kingdom in Ijaw, and went to the home of chief Tompolo for another meeting.

Chief Godspower Gbenakama who is the addresser of the meeting at Gbaramatu, said that they have given the Federal Government a ten day ultimatum, which will expire in four days time, and if the government fail to comply and do right by the sons and daughters of the communities, they will stop oil explorations in the communities.

He also said that they will not continue to sit and watch other people gaining in the oil sector, and leave the pollution for them.

Right now the two communities has put their issues behind them as they are joining hands together to fight for their rights in the oil sector. The people of Warri in Delta State are extremely happy with this new development as they have been doing everything possible to bring back the two communities together.
