Surrender your Gun and Get 2 Cows each, Zamfara State governor tells Bandits.

Zamfara State Governor, Muhammad Matawalle has announced that each repentant bandit in Zamfara who decides to repent and surrenders his gun will receive 2 cows.

The Governor made this known while hosting Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and other heads of security outfits in Nigeria.

Stating this he said, “We said we will compensate them with cows, they are Fulani and they need the cows to advance their economic interest.”

He however gave the bandits a condition that all Forest camps locally known as "Dabas" be disbanded as returning to such forest camps after surrendering arms is still a threat to security in Zamfara State.

On why he implemented the Cow reward policy, the Governor said, “We don’t want to give them money, so they wouldn’t use the money to purchase new weapons.”

He further added that the RUGA settlement policy was introduced to help the fulani herdsmen as many of them lived in caves, forests and under trees. Explaining the settlement options offered to the bandits he said,

He added that the leaders of these bandits resided in Zamfara where their "super Camps" are located. Therefore, if security agencies could cure Zamfara State of their activities, it would be doing the entire North west a favour and Nigeria by extension.
