Under no guise should the Senate Presidency be ceded to the North. It must go to the south — Olusegun Osinkolu

Olusegun Osinkolu, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ekiti State, has expressed his opinion that the Senate Presidency should not be given to the northern region of Nigeria, but rather it should be allocated to the south.

This statement was made during an interview with The Nation newspaper, where Osinkolu discussed various national issues, including the Tinubu-led government and the controversy surrounding the election of principal officers for the 10th National Assembly.

Osinkolu pointed out that during President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year administration, the Senate Presidency was held by individuals from the northern region. In light of this, he believes it is only fair that the southern region should be given the opportunity to enjoy such privileges and occupy the position of Senate President.

Emphasizing his viewpoint, Osinkolu stated that under no circumstances should the Senate Presidency be relinquished to the North, highlighting the need for a more balanced distribution of power. He believes that since the North had its turn during Buhari's tenure, it is now appropriate for the South to have a chance to hold the prestigious position.
