Calculations are already in top gear towards 2023. Political permutations are already being thrown around in the offices of various party secretariats. One concept that is thought to be in consideration is the goodwill of the Abiolas.
Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, simply known as MKO left behind a legacy that is ripe for harvest, and this is not unknown to political gladiators in the country.
The late MKO, for those who were too young to know or remember, was the only elected president who never served as president in the history of Nigeria. MKO won in an election that is today acclaimed as the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria. The election was also said to be a loud 'thank you' to MKO by Nigerians for his numerous philanthropist contributions to the lives of many Nigerians.
And now, it is being thought that Kola Abiola, MKO's first and most popular son is well positioned to bring his father's memories back to the minds of Nigerians in order to drum up a huge support across the country for whichever party floats Kola Abiola as presidential candidate.
The power brokers are thinking about a southern president, and they may have seen the change in democracy day from 29th of May to 12th of June, approved by the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(rtd) to honour MKO, as the first move by the All Progressive Congress, APC, to tap into MKO's goodwill.
And right now it is thought that it may be a matter of who gets to Kola Abiola first, as the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP may be ironing out a plan to weigh in on the Abiola's harvest as well.
To make matter clearer, Kola Abiola was on record saying that he believed that one of the Abiolas will be president of Nigeria in the future. And this statement from the late business mogul's son seems to be an assurance of acceptance if he is approached by either PDP or APC to run for president on either of their platforms.
We shall see what happens as events unfold.
