In the midst of the ongoing public outrage over the recent arrest of the immediate-past Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, on allegations of fraud, former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has come out to reveal that the north has been blaming the wrong person for the region's ongoing blackouts.
Remember that on Thursday, May 11, 2023, the country's media space was awash with reports that Mamman was arrested and detained by EFCC operatives over the alleged diversion of 22 billion Naira earmarked for the construction and completion of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Power projects.
Sani, who represented the people of Kaduna Central Constituency in the 8th National Assembly, revealed in a reaction posted on his Twitter handle a few minutes ago that northerners were led to believe that former Lagos Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, who once served as Minister for Power, was to blame for the lack of consistent power supply in their region, not realizing that they were being dealt with by their own people working in the power sector.
"The monumental fraud uncovered in the Power Ministry exposed the major factor why the country has been in the dark for ages," he said. Northerners were once led to believe that Fashola was the impediment to northern electrical projects. They can now glance inwards. There is no light at the end of the tunnel; power bureaucrats have just been energized and recharged.
