Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna senator, has reacted to the introduction of mandatory direct primary elections in the new electoral act.
The senate finally permitted the Independent National Electoral Commission to transmit election results electronically.
The legislature also introduced compulsory primary elections for political parties in the new law.
The introduction of direct primary election in the law means all members of a political party have the right to participate in the primary, unlike the indirect primary where only delegates participate in the internal selection process.
The Peoples Democratic Party has criticized the inclusion of a mandatory primary election in the law as undemocratic
Reacting to the development, Shehu Sani said: "Indirect Primaries is peaceful but it’s money; Direct Primaries is popular but it’s chaotic."
The politician said this on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.
He also commended the senate for introducing electronic transmission of results in the new law.
