Dr. John Kayode Fayemi was the governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress (AC) in the 2007 governorship election in Ekiti State. He was actually not declared the Winner, immediately, as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State.
On 15 October, 2010 the Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital declared Dr. Kayode Fayemi as the duly elected Governor of Ekiti State. This brought an impromptu end to the reign of Olusegun Oni as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State. Dr. John Kayode Fayemi was, subsequently, sworn-in as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State in 2010.
Interestingly, it took Kayode Fayemi about three and a half years before he could regained his mandate as the duly elected Governor of Ekiti State. He lost his reelection bid to former Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose in 2014.
In 2015, Dr. Kayode Fayemi was appointed as Minister under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. He was posted to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. He held the position till 2018 when he resigned to contest, again, for the Governorship position of Ekiti State. He won the election and was sworn-in in 2018.
The second term tenure of Governor John Kayode Fayemi is being expected to expire in 2022. Considering the administrative experience of Governor Kayode Fayemi, he is being tipped for two possible political positions after leaving the Office as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State.
One, Governor Kayode Fayemi may likely decide to contest for the position of Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District of Ekiti State in the 2023 General Elections.
Interestingly, it is quietly becoming a tradition for majority of the former Governors in Nigeria to retire themselves to the National House of Assembly after serving as the Chief Executive Governors of their, respective, states for eight years of two terms.
Governor John Kayode Fashola could not be considered as an exemption to this political tradition. He is, therefore, being expected to bear the flag of his political party, All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the Senator representing the Ekiti North Senatorial District in the 2023 General Elections.
Secondly, if the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) polls to victory and retain the presidential seat in 2023, Governor John Kayode Fayemi is, surely, one of the politicians who could be nominated for Ministerial post.
The fact that Governor John Kayode Fayemi has gathered enough experience when serving as Governor and Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria may position him, in 2023, as a topnotch ministerial nominee who may, possibly, be posted to one of the juicy Ministries.
