The All Progressives Congress ( APC) in the state of Edo reiterated the suspension of its former president of the state, Anselm Ojezua, urging the public to ignore any statement credited to him as he does not and can no longer represent the party at any level.
The Secretary of State for Publicity of the Party, Chris Azebamwan, said in a statement issued by his Personal Assistant, Ogochukwu Isioma, that the suspension of Ojezua has since been ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Party.
He reacted to a statement credited to the suspended President of the State, in which he allegedly rejected the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma-led Committee.
The statement reads, "Our attention was drawn to a statement credited to Barr. Anselm Ojezu who has been suspended from our great party for the record of the Edo State Primary Election Committee led by Imo State Governor, HE Senator Hope Uzodinma.
“In order to avoid doubts, a vote of no confidence was passed on Barr. Anselm Ojezua was ratified by the State Working Committee of the APC State on 11 November 2019 and the resolution was ratified by the National Working Committee on 13 November 2019.
“That's the action, Barr. Anselm Ojezua is no longer the President of the State of APC in Edo and can not pretend to speak or act in that capacity. Simply put, Ojezua was just speaking for the government house of Edo. Its statement should therefore be ignored by the Edo State Primary Election Committee, by our members and by the general public.
“On this note, we welcome His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma-led committee to our beloved state and express our willingness to welcome his team to Benin City for our Grand Party Governorate's primary election scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2020.
On Thursday, the National Working Committee of the APC (NWC) formed an election committee headed by Sen. Hope Uzodinma, who is also governor of Imo.
The members of the Committee are Abdullahi Abass, Ibrahim Sabo, Ocho Obioma, Amina Muhammed and Gbenga Elegbeleye, while the Speaker of the Senate, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, will act as Secretary of State.
