Cross River 2023: Four Political Giants That May Represent Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency By 2023

For the fact that no one is banking on age as a criterion for leadership and who represents us diligently, we must come to the consciousness that it's time for new sets of leaders in Yakurr/Abi federal constituency seat come 2023.

We may disagree with some of the faces seen here but let's just watch out for all of them in the coming months of political equations. I might be far wrong from some people's prediction or selection but one of these might represent us in the green chamber come 2023.

Let us briefly state a little about their profile.

HON. ALEX EGBONA

Appointed as Special Assistant, special duties to then governor of cross river state Mr. Donald Duke, he contested and was elected into the ill-fated cross river state House of Assembly in 1998, which inauguration was aborted by the sudden death of the then head of State, late General Sani Abacha.

His invaluable contribution and excellent service to Duke Administration earned him a higher Appointment as deputy chief of staff, Dr. Egbona has held other top management positions including the managing director of Abi marketing company (Abi mart).

Dr. Alex Egbona was appointed as the chief of staff and member of the state executive council by his Excellency Sen. Liyel Imoke. Presently, he is the member representing Yakurr/Abi federal constituency in the national assembly.

He is happily married and they are blessed with children.

SUNDAY MICHAEL

His political career began with the ruling party in Lagos State, Alliance for Democracy (AD) where he became the ward secretary at the age of 19. It is on record that Micheal made the first move in the country to seek interpretation of the tenure of state governors who were reelected based on the nullification of their previous elections in 2007.

In 2010, he was named the Chairman of the National Convention Committee of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) where he pronounced Dr. Good luck Jonathan the then Nigerian President the presidential candidate of CDC in merit house Abuja. Also in the same year, Michael was unanimously chosen by his colleagues to replace the removed secretary of the conference of Nigeria political parties (CNPP).

In 2012, he was among the few CDC chairmen absorbed by the national leadership of the Independent Democrats (ID). His first assignment in ID was his Appointment as the Secretary of the 2013 Anambra Gubernatorial elections primaries committee and later made Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee. He has been elected Deputy Secretary, Secretary, and Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).In 2019, he was the governorship candidate of ID in the general elections in the state.

Currently, Sunday Michael is the Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on Inter-party Affair, Cross River State. Michael is an international civil society practitioner, he is the founder of the famous Nigeria Grassroot Youth Forum (NGRYF), National Coalition for Progressive Change (NCPC), and a member of many other organizations. But the Question is has Sunday Michael, a very calculated Political leader defected to the All Progressive Congress? Why has he been so quiet lately? He is happily married and blessed with children.

BASSEY EWA

From 1999-2007, Hon. Bassey served in the Cross River State House of Assembly, he was also speaker of the house. In 2007, he was elected into the federal house of representatives to represent Yakurr/Abi federal constituency and was reelected in 2011 and 2015.

In the house of representatives, Hon. Bassey Haas served in several committees such as Drugs and Narcotics, federal capital territory, interior committee, gas resources, and rural development. The Former Speaker lost his bid to the Senate to Sen. John Owan Enoh, having been out of power for this long and his recent alliance with his former boss, Sen. Liyel Imoke, he is seen in some quarters as the only man that can confront Hon. Alex Egbona or any other flagbearer the APC and the Governor might present. He is happily married and blessed with children.

JOHN OFEM INYANG

Before his appointment as a Hon. commissioner for lands and urban development in Cross River State, in 2015, he has been an academic staff of the department of philosophy, the University of Calabar since 1998 where he taught several courses to both undergraduate and graduate students. between 1998 and 2014, he rose from the rank of a graduate assistant to an associate professor. He is an in-law to the first lady Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade and is believed to be very favored by the Governor.

He is married and blessed with children.
