4 Former Governors And Senators Who Might Contest For The Post Of APC National Chairman (Photos)

The battle for the post of the National Chairman of the ruling party in Nigeria, the outspoken All Progressive Congress (APC) has commenced.

Bigwigs in the party have already begun to jostle for the coveted seat of the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress because the tenure of the Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee will soon end.

Among those that might vie for the post of the All Progressive Congress National Chairman are four former Governors. They are :

1. Senator Ali Modu Sheriff :

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is Borno State first governor to serve two consecutive terms. He served as the executive Governor of the North-Eastern state between 2003 and 2011.

The former Senator representing Borno Central in the red chamber of the National Assembly was the factional chairman of the People's Democratic Party many years ago.

Daily Trust Newspaper stated that the former Governor might announce his interest in contesting the APC National Chairman position soon. 

2. Senator Kashim Shettima :

Senator Kashim Shettima is the immediate past Governor of Borno State. He is one of the leading chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The Senator, who recently visited Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu in London is said to be interested in the office of the National Chairman of APC.

3. Danjuma Goje :

Senator Danjuma Goje is a former governor of Gombe State and senator representing Gombe Central since 2011.

The outspoken lawmaker is a key player in the formation of the ruling All Progressive Congress. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige recently described the APC chieftain as one of the founding fathers of the party. 

4. Senator George Akume :

George Akume is a two-term governor of Benue State and also the current Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
