The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has explained why he withdrew his case challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

After the governorship election in the state, Abe and his party approached the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal to challenge the victory of Governor Nyesom Wike-backed PDP candidate, Siminalayi Fubara.

But last week, Abe, who was accused of being used by Governor Wike to destroy the Rivers All Progressives Congress(APC), and his party, announced that they have withdrawn the matter from the tribunal.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Parry Saroh Benson, Abe said the case was withdrawn because he does not want to enter into a direct confrontation with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect.

EFCC Arrests 40 Suspected Internet Fraudsters In Ogun

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 40 suspected internet fraudsters in Ogun State.

The anti graft agency in a statement issued Thursday said operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command made the arrest on Wednesday in Abeokuta following intelligence on their alleged cyber fraudulent activities.

Items recovered from the suspects included seven exotic cars, several mobile phones, laptops, playing station video games, apple wrist watches and charms.

Police kill member of robbery gang in Warri

Police operatives in Delta have intercepted and shot dead a member of four man robbery gang during a gun duel in Warri area of the state.

A stolen vehicle was also recovered from the robbery gang, the spokesperson for Delta Police Command said in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the robbery suspect was killed by the police operatives attached to the “B Division”, Warri, following a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Bolarinwa Alabi, that some hoodlums snatched a Lexus car on the Warri-Sapele road and using same vehicle to rob people.

“The DPO swiftly mobilised and led a team of striking force of the Division, trailed the hoodlums and caught up with them."

“The hoodlums numbering about four, upon sighting the police, opened fire on the team and the police exchanged the fire."

“The hoodlums escaped into the bush while firing at the police but one of them was shot and fatally wounded."

Police Partner NUJ To Curb Criminal Activities

The Nigeria Police Force, Ekiti State Command and Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council have formed a synergy to checkmate criminal activities across towns and villages in the state.

The arrangement was concluded when the state Commissioner of Police paid a courtesy call on the Secretariat of NUJ, Oke Barake, Old Governor’s office Ado Ekiti, on Thursday.

Speaking during the visit, the State Commissioner of Police, Dare Ogundare explained that there was need for pen professionals to support police to check criminal activities through adequate reportage of the command activities.
