Democracy Is Not A Govt For The Educated - Festus Keyamo

There are different meanings and definitions of democracy from people. During my primary and secondary days, i was taught the simplest definition of democracy that it is the government of the people, by the people, and for the people. But it seems some people are getting it all wrong. One of the Senior Advocates in Nigeria, Festus Keyamo has made us understand what true democracy is, read and know what orchestrates that meaning.

Democracy should be a system of government where Nigerians will have the power and authority to choose our leaders by themselves and we carry out that through the election.

Here in Nigeria, we all believe we are practicing democracy, but taking a look at election processes in the country, i will ask this question that are we practicing a true democracy? Our election is expected to be free and fair, and our voting should be a do-or-die affair.

I think due to some things Nigerians are saying about president Buhari's qualifications, many are saying that he's not expected to be in that position he is, that's what orchestrates the reason behind Festus Keyamo (SAN) statement, where he said that:

Democracy is not the government for the educated, by the educated, and for the educated. This simply means that education has nothing to do with the person we are going to vote for in Nigeria.

He further explained that no one will come and worship your certificate and concede power to you. It's indeed a measure of education to respect and accommodates all shades of people, opinions, and then access to power through such humility.
