My attention has been copiously drawn to a response by Senator Stephen Odey, representing Cross River North, who voted “No” to electronic transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the amendments to the 2021 electoral act by the Nigeria Senate.
The reason adduced by him, citing internet/telephone networks for his action has left many worried.
According to INEC, they can and will transmit the result of elections via the card reader from any location in any part of the country as seen in the last Edo and Ondo states Guber elections.
Odey mentioned that in his Local Government Area, there is a poor network, at such results might not be transmitted through the internet.
He also added that he has written letters to GSM network providers to increase their network coverage and stability in areas of the Cross River North Senatorial District where connectivity is a problem. That when this is done, he will move a motion for the amendment of the Electoral Act.
See the response below made available by one of his media aides.
