NDDC: Man Can Collapse, But The Truth Will Never Collapse
It is disheartening that a nation so blessed as Nigeria, still has many of it's populace wallowing in abject poverty, owing to bad leadership and stinking corrupt practices that has be embed into majority of the it's citizens.
As much as we don't doubt the genuine collapse of the acting NDDC MD, it is pertinent to know that no matter how long, justice will prevail in this matter and the truth shall be let out of the bag.
The lawmakers had raised concerns over the spending at the NDDC, noting that the commission spent N40bn last three months without due process.
However, in a rather shocking manner, two weeks ago, Pondei when giving account of how money was spent, said staff of the agency had to be catered for, has he revealed that a sum of N1.5bn was used as COVID-19 relief fund for staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission
According to saharareporters, he said, “We used it (N1.5bn) to take care of ourselves. We are NDDC, we need to take care of ourselves too.”
The controversy had also seen strong allegations of corruption traded between the Minister and the former MD of the NDDC, Joi Nunei, who also appeared before the lawmakers via Zoom on Friday.
Consequently, in another development on Monday, The acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei, fainted during an investigative hearing at the National Assembly.
Pondei collapsed where he was seated as members of the House Committee on NDDC grilled him. The committee was said to have grilled him for about 45 minutes before he passed out.
Mr Pondei was responding to allegations of 1.5billion naira of financial misappropriation when he suddenly collapsed and couldn’t respond to questions from the chairman of the probe panel.
The committee is in its fourth day of public hearing as it investigates alleged financial misappropriation at the agency.
This event alone, cast an aspersions on the possibility of prevention of truth by the NDDC from the investigative committee.
We strongly hope that this will not be so, because, only Man Can Collapse, But The Truth Will Never Collapse !
With the recent developments surrounding the NDDC corruption probe, do you think the collapse of Pondei Kemebradikumo is real or dramatic ?
