Opinion: Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Is The President Nigeria Needs In 2023, He Can Get The Job Done

I know this headline is enough to get some people angry and emotional but I'll urge you to read on, think about my points logically and you will agree with me that Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the man Nigeria needs in 2023.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

Let's go a little back in time to 2011 when Goodluck Jonathan became the president of Nigeria after his tenure as the acting president when Umaru Musa Yaradua passed away. I can remember vividly how things were.

I want to start with Education, education was a priority when Jonathan was president, it was very evident when he built about 9 new federal universities scattered all over the country. The federal government built Almajiri schools in order to reduce the number of out of school children in the north. This shows that he prioritised education being a PhD holder himself.

Another crucial part was unemployment. Unavailability of jobs has been a problem for a long time now but during Jonathan's tenure, unemployment rate was not at 33%.

He increased the minimum wage by 100 percent to cater for the welfare of the civil servants, he would have done better today. Minimum wage was around N7,500 before he increased it to N18,000.

Compare your living experience and standard of living in 2011-2015 with how it has been from 2015 till date. I'm sure you know the difference is significant. There was no ban on importation of foreign products so food was affordable for the common man.

Petrol pump price was at N87, a 50kg bag of rice was N8,000, Lagos to Abuja airfare was N10,000 and the official dollar to naira rate was N199, these things have increased by more than 100 percent. The rate of inflation is too high for many Nigerians. Don't you think we're missing Goodluck Ebele Jonathan?

Boko Haram and the abduction of Chibok girls were the only dark cloud during his tenure, the terror they unleashed on the people of Borno and it's environs was too big to sweep under the carpet.

He visited almost all the sites where something bad happened, Borno and when there was a bomb blast in Abuja. He didn't send aides or representatives, he went there himself! He speaks to us live on National TV from time to time to reassure us about his plans for Nigeria.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is an empathetic leader, I believe he has more experience to lead the country in the right direction. The 63-year old former president is the man Nigeria and Nigerians need in 2023.

I can name many other politicians who can perform well, but non of them can perform better than Jonathan. He has the presidential experience, he has the energy and he can get the job done.

Kindly share your opinion in the comment section, is there someone you think can perform better than him?
