Enugu State governor-elect Dr. Peter Mbah has said he will enter the state from day one, assuring that he will fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Coal City State. In an interactive session with political journalists in Lagos, he spoke at length on various topics, especially his determination to think outside the box to take Enugu to the next level.
How were you able to overcome the barrier of the opposition to win the gubernatorial election?
We did something unique and strange. Previously, the campaign was conducted in such a way that the gubernatorial candidate was given a tour of the local government area for demonstrations. But we had another view; we felt that we should be granular; we wanted to get to the grass roots. And in addition to getting to the bottom line, we wanted to understand their pain points. So we toured 68 development centers and held town hall meetings with grassroots people and relevant community-based organizations and unions.
It allowed usto sell ou andf hope, our message of explosive growth, and our message of disrupting the status quo. We also began to decipher what we meant by the phrase "tomorrow is here". We began to explain to them what tomorrow would bringranular; we We also involved them constructively. However, the town hall meetings gave us an opportunity to constructively listen to them. Ask themto tell us about their pains, challenges, and difficulties. So it was not a third-party report. I heard from them.
Another opportunity it gave us was to document the different capabilities of local governments in each state. As you already know from my manifesto, we are trying to open up our rural economy, and we have an integrated rural development plan for the country. Thus, we had the opportunity to find out the different possibilities of municipalities, especially development centers. We also had a bold vision of what Enugu State could achieve under our leadership in the next four to eight years, and that obviously resonated with the people.
