Governor Umahi to Sack Over 1,000 Government Workers on August 1, See the Categories and Reasons

The political engineer, Governor David Umahi of Ebony State, who has been reconstructing the long damage political standard in Ebonyi State has on Monday, July 20, 2020 made a declaration that has gotten some of his aids wetting their pants.

He said he would relieve, disengage some categories of aides numbering above 1,000 from service over non-committment to their duties.

Governor Umahi made the statement and somewhat announcement in Abaliki, the State capital during a virtual swearing-in of some special Assistants and Caretaker Chairmen of some Local Governments in the State among other appointees.

According to Vanguard, he stated that governance of the State was no more a 'personal business.'

However, he listed the categories of aides that will be disengaged and that includes:

1. Technical Assistants (TAs)

2. Senior Technical Assistants (STAs)

3. Executive Assistants (EAs)

In his statement, he said the Ebonyi state Government has over 1,000 of these Government aides, over 350 Local Governments liaison officers and many Development Centers Management Committee members, yet himself (the Governor) and his deputy were the only ones involved in handling Covid-19 issues in the state.

"Go and seek positions else where that I don't know, where you would just sit at home and get a bank alert", said the Governor.

He further stated that whoever wish to reapply for the position must come through an endorsement by a Government Ministry or Department who would be held responsible for their ill performance, if any again.

"You must also show us your farm before we can reconsider your application", he concluded.

Indeed, Ebonyi State Governor is reconstructing the state both socially and politically. This measure also should be applied to other states where positions are filled without duties. They just sit down and wait for their bank alert. While those who employed them so to dispense duties accordingly still go about working for them.

What's your opinion on this decision by Governor Umahi, should he give them a second chance or just carry on?
