Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu has explained why Lagos state does not have Amotekun.

For those that don't know, Operation Amotekun was coined from the names of the animals, Leopard or Cheetah, and is a security outfit founded for the use of the six states of the South Western, Nigeria. However, only 5 of these (Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo ) have it present in their respective states, leaving only Lagos without one. It was founded on January 9, 2020, and the headquarters is in Ibadan, Oyo state. The operation is responsible for curbing insecurity in the region and its motto is zero tolerance to crime.

In the interview which he granted on Channels Television, Governor Sanwo-Olu explained why Amotekun is not present in Lagos state, stating that the state has over 7,000 neighborhood watch personnel, who are doing the same thing the South-west security outfit operatives are doing so there was no reason to duplicate the service.
