For the past couple of days, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy in Nigeria, Isa Ali Ibrahim, who is also known as Sheikh Pantami has been making news headlines. The Minister was accused of supporting terror groups such as Boko Haram, Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
Audios and video clips in which the Minister could be heard speaking in favour of Boko Haram, Al Qaeda and the Taliban also surfaced online. In his defense, Sheikh Pantami stated that the video clips and audios are old, he said he made those comments when he was still young and didn't know much about the events happening. Some Nigerians on social media have been demanding that the Federal Government sack Pantami from his position as a Minister due to what he said in the audios and videos that was leaked.
The Presidency addressed the issue through it spokesman, Shehu Garba, few hours ago. Shehu Garba stated that since the Minister has apologised for the comments he made when he was young, their is no need to relieve him of his duties. Shehu Garba also stated that those demanding for the sack of Pantami are not actually concerned about the comments he made, he said they just want him to be sacked because of the policies he is implementing as the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Shehu Garba said the Presidency stand behind Pantami.
Shehu Garba issued a note of warning to all the ICT Compnies and people that are trying to blackmail Pantami, he stated that anybody that is caught trying to blackmail Pantami will be arrested by police.
