Parade protest

Residents protest gas plant construction in Ibadan GRA.

Landlords and residents of the Aerodrome GRA in Ibadan have raised the alert on the risk presented to their lives and properties by a gas plant being developed in the domain by a gas organization .

The wronged occupants , including an octogenarian lady and a previous chief for Environment , Majekodunmi Aborode , had set out on a dissent at the site on Saturday .

The Vice - Chairman of Aerodrome GRA , Prof. Omolola Atalabi , approached the Oyo State Government and the Department of Petroleum Resources to renounce the endorsement for the gas plant on the off chance that it had been given to the organization .

The occupants said it would be a scheme with respect to the organization and the public authority offices required to permit exceptionally inflammable gas plant to be constructed near private structures .

They said a few blasts brought about by gas plants proliferate all over Nigeria and government ought not permit an avoidable one to be added to the quantity of such occurrences.

Atalabi said , " We are stunned and alarmed that endorsement might have been given for such development, considering the conspicuous wellbeing perils and other natural risks of siting a gas plant in a gated network, for example, the Aerodrome GRA .

" It is unseemly to find a gas plant in the areas of Aerodrome GRA , as the discharge of substances from the plant will be risky to inhabitants , and the annihilations of fire episodes can't be precluded . The logical proof for these events is undeniable .

" We appeal to concerned specialists , including the Oyo State Government and DPR , to save us from the inevitable peril to our lives presented by the development of the gas plant . We , in this way , appeal for the prompt renouncement of the endorsement purportedly allowed for the development of a gas plant at Aerodrome GRA . "
