In this article I write about why Niger Delta Minister Goodwill Akpabio should be investigated thoroughly.
Akpabio
The Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godwill Akpabio is currently in a midst of black waters after he was accused of corrupt practices by the immediate past acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Joi Nunieh.
This however is not the first time a person of his callibre is estranged in a case like this. The Minister of Petroleum and the Minister of Information of the Jonathan Administration also had their share of accusations.
Even as it is becoming the norm in the Nigerian political scene, Senator Godwill Akpabio's case is one which we can't ignore. This because it's not the first time he is being alleged to have engaged in one or two shady practices. Infact, he was prosecuted after his governorship term by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on allegations bordering on diversion of public funds, before it was later dropped.
In one of my articles, I highlighted that his case might lead to APC's downfall is the President do not do the needful. Though it is true, the amount of monies the agency claimed to be spending is unhealthy to the stability of the region. The Niger Deltan's wouldn't be happy hearing this bank and forth without any reasonable break through.
Pictures of environmental pollution in the region
Bad roads in the region
The Niger Delta should be the pride of Nigeria in terms of technological standards. That part is where almost 90% of Nigeria's wealth come from. Obviously without oil in Nigeria since we drifted away from agriculture would most likely be detrimental to the country.
Pondei
I watched the drama that ensued in the House of Representatives yesterday. It was very appalling to watch the NNDC boss, Pondei stuttering in the front of the whole world. Even as some might say let's wait, or even claim innocence on behalf of the Minister and the MD, I urge the probe of this allegations till the last stone is turned.
Akpabio
More so, the Minister is said to have accused the legislative members of receiving contracts, eyebrows should also be raised. We can't have a situation of handshakes behind the closed door.
As for President Buhari, my advice is to avoid trying to influence the probe. This is my candid advise as the President would again lift up the hopes of Nigerians especially those from the Niger Delta, if he doesn't. The region now sees this agency as a conduit pipe for siphoning money in the face underdevelopment. The youths of that region are watching and we don't want another uprising.
