Anambra Broadcasting Service gathered that during the screening of the 16 PDP aspirants for November 6 governorship election at the Wadata Plaza few days ago, one of the aspirants, Dr Ifedi Okwenna muted the idea that PDP aspirants from Anambra south senatorial zone should use the opportunity to meet and strategize on how to reach a consensus to ensure that the party ticket does not slip away from the zone.
His idea was welcomed by most of the aspirants and PDP leaders from Anambra south present at the screening venue. Chief Evang Linus Ukachukwu opted to host the Aspirants in his Abuja mansion for the purposes of the meeting.
To avoid tagging the meeting "a Linus Ukachukwu agenda" it was agreed that the meeting would hold in a neutral venue. ABS reported that some aspirants thereafter raised objection that Iyom Uche Ekwunife should not be invited to the meeting of aspirants from Anambra south. They are of the opinion that Iyom can not be representing Anambra central at the senate and still want to represent Anambra south in the governorship race.
Some of the Aspirants told ABS that they boycotted the meeting in protest, stating that in both nomination and expression of interest forms submitted by Uche Ekwunife, she filled Anaocha, in Anambra central senatorial zone as her local government area.
This action of the aspirants would come as a surprise to political observers as the same Senator had attended similar meetings in the past.
"It is a fact that Sen. Ekwunife belonged to a political ward, Nri ward 1 where she registered as a member of PDP and as a voter. The said ward is in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra Central. She has previously represented Anaocha/Dunukofia/Njikoka federal constituency in the House of Representatives also in the Central. In all official documents requiring her personal data, including the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for her governorship aspiration she supplied information to the extent that she is from Anaocha in the Anambra Central", an aspirant told ABS.
"We are right to boycott the meeting. And shall boycott any meeting of Aspirants or even stakeholders convened solely for ndi Anambra south senatorial zone where Iyom is invited. She filled in her forms submitted to the NWC that she is from Anaocha, therefore, she will no longer be allowed to claim Anambra south.
"If she likes Anambra south as her place of birth, she should support the aspirants from the zone and forgo her ambition. Or in alternative resign as a senator representing ndi Anambra central and come down to south to contest.
"This is the opinion of most of us and that's why the meeting was boycotted. We have communicated our stand to the stakeholders", another aspirant concluded.
Above is one of the documents where Iyom stated that she is from Anaocha LGA, in Anambra central senatorial zone.
