Days after a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu was jailed in the United Kingdom, UK, the Federal Government of Nigeria has kept sealed lips.

It also maintained the same stance all through the time the trial lasted.

A public affairs commentator, Chuks Ibegbu, who was not comfortable with the scenario, said Ekweremadu’s case had exposed the Federal Government’s alleged double standard.

Ibegbu said the Federal Government’s silence was an indication that once a personality from a section of the country has issues, such a person is left to their fate.

It could be recalled that a London court had sentenced Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and a medical doctor, Obinna Obeta to prison for organ harvesting.

A federal jury in New York, USA, has found former President Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing Jean Carroll, an advice columnist.

Carroll had alleged that Trump raped her at in Manhattan in 1996.

The jury, which reached a decision on Tuesday in a civil trial, said Trump was not guilty of rape, but was liable for sexual abuse and defamation.

The jury, comprising six men and three women, awarded Carroll a sum of at least $2 million.

Trump did not testify during the trial, but he was deposed on camera in October.

However, Joe Tacopina, Trump’s lawyer, told the jury in closing arguments Monday that Carroll’s story is too far-fetched to be believed.

He claimed that she made it up to fuel sales of her 2019 memoir, and that she wanted to disparage Trump for political reasons.

The Governor of Kaduna, Nasir el-Rufai, has said he would turn down the opportunity to be the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) if he is offered by the incoming administration of president-elect, Bola Tinubu.

He served as the FCT minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration and was notorious for pulling down illegal structures.

According to the Governor, he will never “repeat class”, adding that there are “young people” he can recommend for the job.

“Even if offered, I’m not coming to Abuja. As I say, I never repeat class and there are many young people I know that I can recommend that would do a better job than I did.

“I’m too old for this. I’m too old for demolition, get a young man with blood in his veins or a young woman,” El-Rufai said.
