Donald Trump is the 45th president of the United States of America and one of it's oldest presidents, he was born on the 14th of June 1946(which means he is four years younger than President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria). Over the years, President Donald Trump has been known for his strict leadership style, blunt statements on racism, logical analysis that leaves no room for sentiments, various allegations and misconducts. Despite that, he has been norminated for the Nobel Peace Prize after helping to broker peace between Isreal and the United Arab Emirates.
Let's shift focus to our very own president; President Muhammadu Buhari. President Muhammadu Buhari is the current president of Nigeria, serving his second tenure, after recording a victory in the 2019 elections. He was born on the 17th December 1942. His passion for Nigeria has led him to developing various policies and even seeking loans to revive the nation's economy.
Recently, he met with President Donald Trump in a close door meeting and confessed that, Trump inquired why he was sponsoring the killings of Christains in some northern states of the country. While, some may not particularly agree with President Buhari's soft reply, I personally disagree with Trump's approach. As a nominee of the Nobel Peace Prize, I expected a more intellectual approach, rather than a blunt accusation with no proof or was it because he was dealing with the president of a black nation? Was it the same strategy he used in brokering peace between Isreal and the United Arab Emirates?
I feel it's too early to judge the motives and moral character of President Donald Trump, who still concieves racism and prejudice when dealing with some countries. Whether, we like it or not, he simply insulted President Muhammadu Buhari with such insensitive question with no form of political wisdom or diplomacy.
The Norwegian Nobel committee should have a rethink and norminate a worthy leader.
