The Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo is gradually telling Nigerians that he is a tough man who cannot be intimidated or cajoled. His stand at the National Assembly Committee meeting against the lawmakers shows that he truly believes in Buhari's change mandra. The 774, 000 jobs which the Federal Government approved to mitigate the effects of coronvirus has been an apple of discord between him and the National Assembly committee members who performed their oversight functions as lawmakers who represent the people. Last two weeks he was worked out of a meeting with lawmakers for insisting that every discussion with the lawmakers should be before journalists who were present. Festus Keyamo who has seen how such closed door section in the past played and believes it was a way of the lawmakers asking for their slot in the jobs. Although he was taken to the Senate President with his senior colleague in the Ministry, Chris Ngige. But he didn't change his opinion about the lawmakers. President Muhammadu Buhari looks like he took side with him upon hearing it. Because from his statement, he warned government agencies against collecting any reference letter from any job seeker. Today's news had it had President Buhari has given him the green light to go ahead with the recruitment exercise which will see 1000 Nigerian youths selected from each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria. With this courage and display of integrity from Festus Keyamo, I can say that every qualified Nigerian youth stands a chance. This recruitment process from what I have seen in Keyamo will be transparent to the admiration of all. Keyamo is a human right lawyer who knows what it means to be fair to all. I think it is why he insisted that the lawmakers will not have their way in it. I just hope that those will help him with this at various states, and local government levels will not betray his efforts.
