President Muhammadu Buhari while making a presentation at the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday, 19th August, 2021, expressed his readiness to make changes in security personnel with aim of arresting insecurity issues across the country. He stated that, he would not leave the country in security crisis at the end of his tenure in 2023, neither do he want his administration to be defined by the spate of insecurity.
The statement was disclosed by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), at a briefing after the meeting. He however, added that President Buhari was happy that there has been tremendous success, especially with the advent of the new service chiefs and Inspector General of Police. According to him, president Buhari has made changes and he is ready to make further changes if he is not satisfied. “The president made it very clear that he is not ready to exit government as a failure. He is completely determined to ensure that there’s a turnaround in operation towards issues of insecurity," he said.
Monguno further disclosed that, President Buhari is yet to decide on what will become the fate of the Boko Haram members that have surrendered. “There are plans. But I don’t want to immediately divulge what has been decided on those plans till the president takes a firm decision on the plans," he said.
