Dr. Yunusa Tanko, a senior Labour Party chieftain, came out a few hours ago to describe how a man came to the ongoing Election Petition Tribunal to accuse the party's presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, of being a tribal bigot.
For those who are unaware, Dr. Tanko, the Spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, appeared on ARISE TV's 'Prime Time' program with Charles Aniagolu to discuss the party's ongoing leadership issue.
During the interview, Tanko stated that the rebellious factions vying for control of the Labour Party were supported by the old political order, which has been shaken by the party's remarkable triumph in the just finished polls. He went on to say that the same old gang of politicians has used various techniques to portray Peter Obi as a religious and ethnic bigot to ignorant Nigerians, including impersonating his voice during phone calls to unsuspecting individuals.
To bolster his case, the Labour Party leader described how a young guy stormed the Tribunal four days ago, alleging that Obi contacted him on the phone and began speaking Igbo to him. He then alleged that the former Anambra governor dropped the call when the man stated that he wasn't from the Southeast.
So, according to this individual, he came to court to accuse Obi of being a religious and tribal bigot. But when our presidential candidate asked the gentleman, who is the son of a former governor of Kogi, if they had ever met in person before, he responded no. Obi then informed him that he appeared in court about 3 a.m. after returning from the UK. This young man felt humiliated and had to apologize. He later took photos with Obi, and I can confirm that he is a recently converted Obidient. As a result, anything this old group of politicians throws at us as a party will only strengthen us."
