Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State , the Inspector - General of Police , Mohammed Adamu , and traditional rulers in the state will visit Igangan , Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state today to deliberate on how to restore peace to Ibarapaland .
The Deputy Chairman , Oyo State Council of Obas, Oba Francis Alao, who said this in an interview with one of our correspondents on Saturday , said the meeting was organised primarily to ensure that peace returned to the area .
Violence had erupted in Igangan , Ibarapa, on Friday when a popular Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo , well known as Sunday Igboho , alongside his followers , stormed the Fulani settlement in the ancient town to eject Seriki Fulani , Salihu Abdukadir , and herdsmen accused of perpetrating crimes ranging from kidnappings , killings , rape to invasion of farmlands with their cattle.
The Muslim Rights Concern has urged South -West leaders to consider many Yorubas living in the northern region of the country in issuing quit notices to northerners .
This was contained in a statement by the director of the organisation , Prof . Ishaq Akintola , on Sunday , titled , ‘ Herdsmen versus Yoruba : MURIC calls for dialogue ’ .
Akintola also challenged security agencies to arrest criminal herdsmen in the South - West .
The PUNCH reports that a Yoruba activist , Sunday Adeyemo Igboho had issued a quit notice to the Hausa -Fulani in Igangan , Oke Ogun area of Oyo State , and led indigenes of the area to the Hausa -Fulani community on Friday .
The incident allegedly resulted in the destruction of houses and vehicles .
The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore herdsmen group has called on the Federal Government to heed the call for the restructuring of the country to allow the Fulani go their way.
The National Secretary of the group , Saleh Alhassan , said in an interview with our correspondent on Saturday that herdsmen were being marginalised in the country and that it was best if they were on their own where they would be protected .
There have been calls for the restructuring of the country , with many southern groups insisting that it was the only way the country could move forward , while northern groups have largely been divided on the issue .
Resource control , fairness and the allegations of killings , invasion of farmlands and people ’s properties, kidnapping and other criminal activities against some herdsmen had fuelled the calls for restructuring of the country . The herders/ farmers clashes had also increased the distrust among the ethnic groups, with some individuals from the different zones issuing quit notice to some others .
Some suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly shot a woman , Morenikeji Salami , while going to her site on the Oru -Awa Road in the Ijebu- North Local Government Area of Ogun State .
The woman ’s injuries were captured in a video that went viral on Saturday .
The attackers numbering about eight reportedly emerged from the bush , cut off one of her fingers and shattered her jaw with bullets.
Salami was said to have run into some herds and attempted to make a quick reverse but was caught and attacked .
In the over four - minute clip , the woman was seen being treated in a hospital, writhing in pains as a nurse attended to her.
The victim was said to have been taken to a few hospitals including the state -owned Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital but was rejected.
