'We Are Still Investigating How Peter Obi Won The Election In Cross River' - Gov Ben Ayade

The Governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade has alleged that they are still investigating how Peter Obi won the election in Cross River State during the Presidential election. The Governor speaking in an interview with Channels Tv news admitted that there were certain factors that caused the All Progressive Congress defeat in the state.

He alleged that the young Cross Riverians thought beyond ethnic coloration and decided to go for something different from the usual APC and the PDP. He also added that the influence of South Eastern voters was also seen in the election. He asserted that the people united and supported their own in the election. He however still insists that they are still investigating Obi's victory in the state.

He said, ''Most of the areas Labour Party won in Nasarawa were places where Igbos live in. And these are people who will always stand with their own. I can't dismiss that role in the Cross River election but to say was that sufficient enough to turn the tide in Cross River state? I will say No. There must be another factor, and so we are still investigating how Peter Obi won the election in Cross River.

But there was this youth force that believe there was a need to effect a change. And so even young Cross Riverians who believe in this new ideology of concept of change moved away from the ethnic calculation and went for change on the basis of age. They believe that Nigerians need to have departure from major political parties that have held sway for a long time, be it APC or PDP. So that also was the factor.''
