A cartoon about the outgoing Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, and President Muhammad Buhari has generated different reactions on social media. The cartoon was designed by The PUNCH newspaper.

The cartoon shows the need for state police in the country. The Inspector-General of Police is responsible for the internal security of the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The IGP has been overwhelmed with the security challenges facing the country.

The cartoon shows the need for state police in Nigeria, every state of the federation will be able to tackle its security challenges without waiting for the Federal Government or Inspector General of Police.


With the increase in insecurity across the country, many Nigerians have called for the establishment of state police. Only state police can put an end to banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, Boko Haram, religious conflict, and tribal crisis.
