President Muhammadu Buhari turned 78 on Thursday, December 17, 2019, remaining Nigeria’s oldest civilian leader in power.
Born in 1942, he took over office first as a Major-General, and became Nigeria’s head of state in 1983, under the Supreme Military Council at age 41.
He ventured into full politics and after three attempts; he became Nigeria’s fourth democratically elected President in 2015 since the fourth republic in 1999 and won re-election in 2019.
It is not clear how the birthday will be marked, but since past ones had not been done with fanfare, it is expected that Buhari will choose to mark it as quietly as possible.

As far back as 1971, the man got married to Safinatu Yusuf whom he later divorced in 1988. It was the next year that he decided on marrying Aisha Buhari. Hajia Aisha is a businesswoman before she was drawn into politics beside her husband.
With both his present and former wives, Muhammadu Buhari has 10 children. Including Halima, Zarah, Yusuf, Aisha, and Amina. He has, however, lost two of his children; Zulaihat and Musa.
