One unique thing about Christianity is that the though we have the same origin, use the same Bible, and worship the same God, there are thousands of different church denominations each with their own doctrines and distinct names. And though we are all members of the same body (Christ), every Christian has to identify with one of such church denominations and become a member in it.
However, when it comes to having a vast number of members, there is one church denomination which stands above all others. Infact in any country or state you go to, this denomination is always packed full. This denomination is The Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church is estimated to have about 1.3 billion members worldwide. A number that is esteemed far greater than that of all the other churches put together. This church is never lacking in members. And when it comes to their Capital in Rome, the numbers there is unbelievable.
The Catholic Church is one of the oldest Church denominations. Infact there are rumors that it was the first Church denomination established. However, one undeniable fact is that the church helped shape Western Civilization, and the leader, the Pope, has always been very very influential, right from the first, to the current Pope Francis. The Catholic Church has a hierarchy with the Pope at the very top.
One other thing to note is that the Catholic Church is also very rich. It could very well be the richest church in the world. Ever since Civilization began, Catholic church has been the number 1 church when it comes to missionary work, opening of schools for education, and support for less privileged. That is why there are many secondary and primary schools named St. Peter or St. Paul. These are all established by the Catholic Church.
Anywhere you go, people who attend Catholic Church are always many. Perhaps it's because it is one of the oldest church, or it is well known, or it is very organized. However it could very well be the missionary and humanitarian activities of the Church that attracts people the most, or maybe it is just the power the Pope has. But the fact remains that the Catholic Church more members than any other church denomination.
What are your thoughts on this? Why do you think so many people attend Catholic Church?
