Photos: Mosque And Tomb Of Prophet Jonah (Yunus)

This mosque houses a grave believed to be that of Prophet Yunus (Jonah). It was built by the Ayyubids in 1226 CE and is located in a town called Halhul, north of Hebron. It is built on Mount Nabi Yunus, the highest peak in the West Bank, Palestine.

When Prophethood was bestowed upon Yunus (Jonah), God commanded him to go to Nineveh to preach and show them the right path. The city of Nineveh was located on the right bank of the River Tigris in ancient Assyria, across the river from the present-day major city of Mosul, Iraq.

Prophet Jonah was thrown overboard and swallowed by the fish during his journey to Tirshish from Palestine, where Tunisia is situated in our modern day. Prophet Jonah Yunus (عليه السلام) is also claimed to be buried in Mosul, Iraq. He was a great prophet of God.

Here are beautiful photos of his mosque and tomb in Palestine:
