Open Letter to all Muslim Brothers and Sisters after the Ramadan Celebration

Dear muslim brothers and sisters,

After the celebration of Ramadan festival (Eid Al-Fitr) on Thursday, it is important to remind us that we are in another month known as Shawwal in Islamic calendar.

Shawwal is the tenth month on the Lunar Islamic calendar. The first day of Shawwal is called Eid Al-Fitr. We also have 6 days of fasting during the month of Shawwal.

According to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), If you fast in the month of Ramadan and then observe fasting in the month of Shawwal. It would be as if he fasted perpetually.

You can commence fasting the Shawwal from the second day of Shawwal, because it is haram to fast on the day of 'Eid. You can fast the six days at any time during Shawwal, although the best of good deeds are those which are done soonest.

It is permissible to start fasting one or more days after 'Eid, and they may be done consecutively or separately during the month of Shawwal, according to what is easier for a person. There are rooms for manoeuvre in this matter, and this is not obligatory, it is Sunnah.

May Allah accept it as an act of worship.
