The Muslim Ummah have been urged to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1442AH from today being the 11th of May, 2021 and equivalent to Islamic calendar, 29th day of Ramadan 1442 (After the Hijirah of the holy prophet Muhammad S.A.W).
According to the information made available to press men and signed by Wazirin Sokoto and chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in the Sultanate, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu indicates that any individual or group who sights the new moon should report to the nearby district or village head for onward dissemination to the Sultan of Sokoto and president council for Islamic affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar to mark an end to this year's Ramadan fast.
Shawwal is the 10th month in the Islamic calendar for the celebration of Eid-Fitri after the official termination of Ramadan which is based on the natural occurrence of the moon. It usually brings an end to a month long Ramadan fast when it is sighted on the 29th or 30th of the holy month.
Also, Muslims who have the means are expected to give out compulsory charity (Zakati-Fitri) on, or two days before the first day of the new month of Shawwal.
May Allah accept all the obligatory religious duties performed during the Ramadan. Ameen.
