Opinion: 2 Things Modern-Day Pentecostal Pastors Can Learn From W.F. Kumuyi

The 21st century has ushered in a new wave of God's plan, as modern-day Pentecostal churches and their young ministers have been destined by God, to play a major role in raising disciples in these end times.

However, there is a need for the older ministers to serve as models for the new generation of ministers, who will extend the move of God. One of such models is William Folorunsho Kumuyi (popularly known as W.F. Kumuyi.

Kumuyi is the Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church (DLBC). Kumuyi is recognized as one of the fathers of faith in the Nigerian Pentecostal church, as he has been in ministry since the '70s and also founded DLBC during that period (more precisely 1973).

The Nigerian church has come to terms with the fact that Kumuyi's ministry is approved of God, and has been tested and proven by man. Therefore, it is safe to say that, modern-day ministers have a few things to learn from Kumuyi.

This article was written for this purpose, to opine on two (2) things modern-day Pentecostal pastors/ministers can learn from W.F. Kumuyi. They are:

1. Conviction

Conviction is one of the things that proves if one is truly called of God. The message God may commit to one may not be sweet to the ears of his audience, but conviction is the reason why that one would consistently preach that same message without any bias.

Kumuyi has over the years, stuck with one message - the doctrine of Holiness and Sanctification, and many have even termed him the pioneer of the Holiness movement in Nigeria. However, one thing everyone agrees with is: Kumuyi has preached this same message for years, and still does! That's conviction.

2. Discipline and Modesty

A good teacher teaches what he practices and not just what he knows. DLBC has been able to carve a niche for itself over the years, as a modest and discipline church, and that is because its founder teaches it consistently.

Therefore, modern-day Pentecostal pastors can learn to be modest and teach their congregation the same, so that Christ can be properly represented in the world.
