A Nigerian Catholic Priest serving as a Missionary in The Gambia, Reverend Father Kelvin Ugwu, took to his Facebook page to speak about the importance of building Big industries in Africa. He said, "Imagine if the competition is about who is building the next industry, and not church or mosques".
Speaking further, he confirmed that mosques are built in almost every available space in The Gambia, while churches are built in almost every space in the Southern part of Nigeria, yet when people gather in those religious centres, they pray to have money to buy things produced by industries. He added that his speech does not imply that churches and mosques should not be built, but there should also be a competition to build industries in Africa, as people compete to build churches and mosques.
"Imagine if the competition in Africa is about who is building the next big industry or school and not who is building the next big mosque or church or adoration ground. In Gambia, every space you see, a mosque is built. In Southern Nigeria, every space you see, a church is built. And when we gather, what are we praying for? To have money to buy spaghetti, rice, fertilizer, cement, and petrol and gas. We even pray to get employed by industries.
"Note: If your comprehension of this post made you think I am asking that churches and mosques should not be built at all, that is purely the business between you and your brain", he wrote.
