It is not an easy thing for a ship to sink while the pilot is still awake. All blames would be on him. All casualties and losses would be upon him. Such is what befalls the council chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. He became the council boss of the area, but in less than 100 days in Office, the area almost turns into a war zone. Certainly, he would be held responsible for everything. Of course it is in his area of command that these things are happening.
The recent invasion by the military force in the area in an attempt to flush out the hoodlums who have been terrorizing the area has rendered many indigens of the area homeless. The military operation which took place on Tuesday led to the burning down of people's houses, shops and other properties. Some have lost their lives.
Consequently, out of compassion, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State has given an accommodation for indigens who are Internally displaced as a result of the attack.
The council chairman, accompanied by the bishop, Most Reverend Dr Camillus Reymond Umoh, visited the IDPs who took refuge at the Catholic Cathedral, Ifuho in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The chairman, while addressing the homeless indigens broke down in tears as he assured them that everything will surely fall back in place in no distant time. He assured them that his administration will never abandoned them especially in this trying times.
The chairman, who could not control his emotions while speaking to the people, was comforted by the catholic bishop.
Meanwhile, this is the first time the council chairman had been seen in public for the past weeks since the beginning of the attack and the intervention of the Military Force. It would be better if the leadership of Local Government Area would call the attention of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to the issue for help and humanitarian intervention.
