Sometimes most believers believe that they are righteous while others don't. This is due to the content they are exposed to and the kind of understanding they have in the word of God. The headline question of this article asked if, “you are righteous or is your righteousness like that of a filthy rag”? This is something to think about as a Christian. Are you qualified to be called the righteous?

Although, the righteousness of man was questioned in the old testament in the book of Isaiah 64:6 which says “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Going through the passage could make you believe that your righteousness is like that of a filthy rag and you are under the mercy of God.

Yes, you are correct, you were under God's mercy and still under God mercy but your righteousness is no longer like this of a filthy rag. The answer to the above questions is “Yes,” you are righteous and qualified to be called the righteous. The above Bible passage was in the old testament and that was before the coming of Jesus Christ.

The coming of Jesus Christ abolished some old laws, it place us at God's mercy through his death and we don't need to beg for anything further. He atoned for our sins and reconcile us back to God through his blood. That was the price he paid for us through the cross of cavalry, which is the same as our righteousness.
You have become righteous through Jesus Christ and your righteousness is no longer like that of a filthy rag. Don't let anyone make you feel less of who you are and what you have through Jesus Christ. Remember, he is the way, the truth and the light and everyone who comes to him is safe and those who come through him are presented blameless in the eyes of God.

Then how come will your righteousness be like that of a filthy rag? You are righteous and you are called the righteous. The book of 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Some other Bible versions will say “We are the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ.” This means your righteousness is no longer like that of a filthy rag because we become righteous through Jesus Christ.

Study his word and get understanding. Many things have been paid for you through his death and leave in that consciousness all the time. Have faith in him and believe that your sins have been atoned for and you have become the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ.
